Helen embraces music education as a means of facilitating an individual’s personal development and self-expression, as well as building their personal confidence and self-esteem.ĭr Nicholas Young is an alumnus of the AMEB (FMusA) and university systems of musical training (PhD Music, Melbourne Conservatorium), and currently serves as piano tutor of Albert Park College, approved accompanist of Melbourne Conservatorium, and director of CBD-based studio PIANO GURU. She has published several articles and has presented papers at national and international conferences, conducted master classes for the AMEB, Victorian Music Teachers’ Association (VMTA), and Suzuki Music in Melbourne, as well as adjudicating in Eisteddfods and Music Festivals in Victoria and interstate. As part of her doctoral studies, Helen developed a pedagogical approach to teaching Bartók’s post-tonal piano music.Ĭurrently Helen maintains a private piano studio and is a senior AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) examiner. In 2020 was awarded a PhD in music education from Charles Darwin University. In 1989 she was awarded a Hungarian Government Scholarship, and travel grant from the University of Melbourne to research Bartók’s piano music at the Budapest Bartók Archives.īetween 19, Helen tutored and lectured in both academic and practical subjects at VCA and, in 1997 was invited to lecture in Analysis and Theory at the University of Melbourne.
